The Coming of Naledi
The coming of Naledi is a book that was written as a reflection on the experience that was brought about a birth of a daughter, a star, Naledi! It speaks to young mothers around the issues of uncertain relationships that ends upon having the first child which is a common phenomenon in our country. The book also speaks to the issues of knowledge or lack thereof in relation to motherhood and how broad and common the issue of postnatal depression and anxiety is amongst young mothers who are most likely handling school, work, and raising the child and let alone the cultural expectations placed upon women to carry through motherhood to be validated as a woman. The book also addresses the issue of infertility and problems encountered before one conceives amongst women and the burden of lack of support they receive during this difficult time of their lives to an extent that some are rendered useless because of their inability to bear children and how insensitive the society at large gets to address this issue. Fertility is a sensitive issue that needs to be treated as such and the author’s Experience of almost losing Naledi made it important for the book to address what is beyond. The book most importantly is a true reflection of how important it is to write for and to our children that one-day when we are no more, our children can refer back to our documented communication which I think it is also a great deal to build unbreakable bond between mothers and daughters regardless. It is ultimately made to be enjoyed, to educate and most importantly to open our minds to become better people and have more empathy around issues surrounding pregnancy, losing children and fertility problems encountered by many women out there.
